Demna Gvasalia's Balenciaga continues to embrace the chunky dad sneaker trend with its latest release: the Runner. Available in triple black, all white, or a bold "White/Dark Red/Grey/Black" colorway, this silhouette follows recent additions like the X-Pander and various versions of the Track Sneaker. Reflecting Balenciaga's evolution from the iconic Triple S, the Runner embodies contemporary style while retaining the brand's signature elements that contribute to its success.
Constructed from nylon and mesh, the Runner offers a leather-free design with a distressed aesthetic across all color options. Notably, the white variation features intentional discoloration on the toe box, sole unit, and sporadically on the upper.
The sneaker showcases quintessential Balenciaga details, including sizing markers on the heel and toe, and a "runner" logo on the midsole, resembling a marker-like style. Balenciaga's branding appears throughout, from embroidered tongue logos to "B" logo plaques on distressed rope laces and various placements on the shoe's vamp, heel, and sole unit.
Despite its multitude of details, the Runner maintains a cohesive design, representing one of Balenciaga's most meticulously crafted sneakers yet. It seamlessly merges elements of chunky dad shoes, '90s running sneakers, and a dystopian futuristic aesthetic that characterizes the brand's collections.
